The Pilot Project

The project intends to develop archaeological tourism through new technologies, eliciting the interest of tourists in a unique way, through an experience of high emotional impact; stimulating memorable experiences which lead to a deepening of cultural understanding. The technologies range from virtual reconstructions to the digitalization of photographic archives, to guided tows through satellite navigation, to videogames, available over the internet at the historic-cultural website Valle del Sarno il Patrimonio and the Sarno explorer, a highly innovative handheld computer. This last device is offered to visitors as a sophisticated and easy-to-use instrument, equipped with GPS, a gyroscopic capabilities and altimeter sensors which will accompany their visit. The Sarno explorer offers support to visitor in many ways: it is their orientational navigator, able to guide them from the Fienga castle to the Baptistery of Santa Maria Maggiore, their resource for cultural information, their guide to the discovery of important archaeological sites, even offering them reconstructions in real time.
